Ulysses Link Walking Track, Mission Beach
Named for the brilliant blue Ulysses butterflies, the 1.5km lysses Link Walking Track winds its way along the breathtaking foreshore.
With $107,500 from the Queensland Heritage Trails Network, the history of Mission Beach has been interwoven along the walk with indigenous and historical stories expressed through mosaics, carvings and ceramic sculptures created by local artists.
Hugging the Tropical North Queensland coast for about 15km, Mission Beach takes in a handful of villages from Garners Beach in the north to Kennedy Bay in the south. Along the stretch are sleepy Bingil Bay, Mission Beach proper, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach.
Located 180km south of Cairns, Mission Beach is a tropical paradise where dense rainforest jungle and rugged mountains come right down to meet pristine, palm fringed beaches. It's also the closest mainland point to the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, with beautiful Dunk Island lying just 4km offshore.
The Ulysses Link Track is one of a number of exciting cultural tourism projects developed in the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics.
To explore the Ulysses Link Walking Track, follow the signs from the centre of Mission Beach to Clump Point in the north, where it meets up with the Cutten Brothers walking track and continues on to the Clump Point Jetty.Places to see in Queensland
