The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) has published a new architectural policy 'Architecture and the Built Environment for Northern Ireland'.
At the heart of the policy is a demand for a step change in the quality of design, construction and performance of publicly funded development. Published in 2006, the policy is aimed at promoting the value of good design to those who commission, design, construct, use and care for buildings and public open spaces.
At the launch of the policy, the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure, Maria Eagle MP said: 'The aim of the policy is to help the people of Northern Ireland build an environment that is sustainable and life enhancing for everyone. The built legacy we leave for future generations should be one they can be proud of.'
