The Minister for Tourism and Culture said that in order to be competitive today's tourism sectors demands a strong emphasis on the product side; high quality; particular measures to ensure a clean and healthy environment and regular events that promote Malta as a worthwhile experience rather than just another destination. He said that he was pleased that the Malta Tourism Authority was organising such events that attracted thousands of tourists.
Malta is a country with 7,000 years of history. During the era of the Knights of St John in Malta the city of Valletta was built. The three walled cities of Birgu, Bormla and Senglea where fortified through the construction of the Cottonera lines. These, together with Mdina in Malta and the Cittadella in Gozo, form part of our historic cities which are a major attraction to tourists" said Minister Francis Zammit Dimech who augured that these festivals will continue to flourish for the benefit of the Maltese population and tourism.
