Sihanoukville or Kampong Som is named after the King Norodom Sihanouk. This is the second popular tourist destinations for visitors to Cambodia, houses pristine beaches and of course within an stone throw away uninhabited islands which one could easily have for themselves. There is an international airport in town, which run a daily flight between here to several places in Vietnam and Thailand.
The beaches are not as touristy as other popular places in other countries, however all this is about to change as many resorts have been constructed and many more are in construction. With cheap prices, pristine beaches, and bus loads of Korean and Japanese tourists one will see this place transformed into a very popular destination!
White beach in the day and popular bar at night Sihanoukville may not be popular but it is a good place to stay and enjoy life for a while.
There are mostly local people coming here so it's very silent. The people on the beaches are selling fruit and bracelets but not pushing at all except for some of the kids who are organised by older men into gangs of thieves and will try and distract you to get into your bags as we saw happen to several people. So take extra caution and try to avoid the children. That said it's a really nice place to stay and get some rest.
