The racial mixture that originated the people of Brazil was also responsible for generating a country rich in cultural tradition. Transmitted throughout the generations, most of the popular manifestations and festivities reproduce historical and religious events, such as the Folia de Reis (Epiphany) and Cavalhadas (Horse Herds) Festivities. Further festivities were brought to Brazil through Portuguese and African influence and were incorporated to the country´s daily life, expressing the festive disposition and creativity of our people, such as Carnival and the Congadas. Popular festivities are mixed in with national holidays forming a unique and diversified cultural calendar.
