Welcome to the Official Website for the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs. Here you will find information on the diversity of events, programs and services offered by this department.
The Community Education and Development Program offers a variety of personal growth and development, recreational, social, and academic courses. As well this unit organizes the ‘Hands on Youth’ program for young people between the ages of 14 years and 17 years. The Community Education Program concerns itself with matters that affect the well being of the people in our community and therefore promotes community awareness and advocates “life-long learning”.
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs also annually hosts several social events for Bermuda’s senior citizens including the Annual Seniors’ Cruise, Seniors’ Picnic, Jazz Concert in the Park, and the Seniors’ Award Ceremony. Every year the Department also produces the Seniors’ Biography Booklet which highlights many seniors including those elders in our community who have achieved the distinction of being centenarians. The Department also holds a series of lunchtime seminars on topics of interest to Seniors. These Seminars occur monthly from October to April.
The role of Community and Cultural Affairs is to preserve, promote, celebrate and record aspects of this island’s cultural heritage; to disseminate historical information in many mediums; to facilitate knowledge of and appreciation for the people of the island; to promote the arts and increase people’s awareness of and appreciation for our folklife and traditions.
The Department achieves this by organizing several annual events including the Heritage Month events, the Bermuda Day Parade, the Emancipation Celebration, Gombey Festival, Bermuda Heart and Soul, the Artist in Residence Program, Premier’s Concert and the production of a variety of media programs featuring aspects of Bermuda’s culture and heritage. The Department holds a range of films on a wide variety of Bermuda’s culture, and accessible archives on Bermuda’s Folklife traditions.
I invite you to explore the Website and learn more about the Department and how it services the people of Bermuda. Should you require further information, please contact us through the emails or telephone numbers associated with our Department.
