The Home of High-Flying Adventure
Soar like an eagle above the Sierras. Sail like a seabird above Lake Tahoe. Or dive like a falcon above Lake Mead and beyond the Las Vegas Strip! Any way you like to fly, adventure is always in the air in Nevada. Our wide open state offers spectacular vistas of high desert sands and the towering peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. You can take a hot air balloon ride over Lake Tahoe or the Carson Valley or even soar at an altitude of 4,700 feet above Minden, one of the world’s favorite glider spots. You’re cleared for takeoff in Nevada.
Hang Gliding and Paragliding
From motor-powered to wind-only, you’ll find the hang gliding or paragliding adventure you’ve dreamed of in Nevada.
Imagine gazing down on the majestic Sierras from a prop-driven ultra light aircraft. Or hang gliding over the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe, with no sound except the whoosh of air. Fly solo or tandem, but either way, prepare to feel the rush of the wind and to view spectacular vistas from a perspective usually reserved for eagles and superheroes.
If you’d like to soar above Lake Tahoe without landing in it, stay-dry parasailing - supervised by Coast Guard-licensed captains - is for you. Choose your altitude by selecting the length of line you want, from a close-up view to far above the surface.
Parachuting and Skydiving
If you jump at the chance to parachute and skydive, Nevada is your kind of place.
With our state’s diverse topography and unique destinations, you’ll get a bird’s eye view of such breathtaking sights as Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the Colorado River. Or see Las Vegas and the Strip from a perspective you’ll never forget.
Jumping for the first time? Try a tandem skydive, with an experienced coach. It’s the fastest, easiest and safest way to get in on skydiving at the ground floor.
In Nevada, you don’t even need to go outside to go skydiving! Discover the world’s first vertical wind tunnel for indoor skydiving in Las Vegas. You’ll experience the thrill of vertical airspeeds up to 120 mph, on a column of air 12 feet wide and up to 22 feet high. It’s an amazing experience for novice and seasoned skydivers alike.
Hot Air Ballooning
Up, Up and Away!
Imagine silently rising up from the desert floor and into clouds high above the earth. The only sound is an occasional whoosh as hot air races upward into the balloon that towers above you. Below you stretches the entire Las Vegas Valley. Or the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe. Or lush Carson Valley, surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks. And did we mention that dawn is breaking on the eastern horizon?
This is hot air ballooning, Nevada-style!
Hot air balloons can range in size and carry anywhere from 4 to 16 passengers. The smaller balloons are 140,000 cubic feet of volume while the larger balloons are up to 240,000 cubic feet of volume. Flights over Lake Tahoe or the Carson Valley start at elevations from 4,200 feet to 6,200 feet above sea level and reach elevations up to 10,000 feet above sea level. When conditions permit, you can see all of the Sierras and on a clear day even the peaks of Yosemite.
Soaring
When it comes to world-class soaring, the world comes to Nevada. From an amazing flight above Las Vegas to breathtaking excursions over Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay and the peaks of the Sierras, there’s a soaring experience for everyone: passengers, novice pilots and seasoned veterans.
Your adventure may begin in the deserts of southern Nevada. Or perhaps in the north at 4,700 feet, where Minden’s exceptional currents attract the world’s most avid pilots. You can soar above the Sierras - and even attempt to break personal altitude and distance records. Flights of 1,000 kilometers are not at all unusual at Minden.
Nevada’s soaring fields offer a range of tours, professional instruction and airstrips for power pilots who want to fly in themselves. So, if you’d like to experience what the rest of the soaring world is talking about, come to Nevada…a state that goes above and beyond!
