Arkansas State Parks maintains over 60 miles of bridle trails. Bring your horse for an equestrian adventure on state park trails and adjoining national forest lands. A horse camp is provided at Devil's Den State Park.
DEVIL'S DEN - Nestled deep in a picturesque Ozarks Mountain valley, and featuring a little over 20 miles of horse trails, Devil's Den State Park is one of Arkansas's most scenic and popular sites for horseback riding. Trails lead through the natural beauty of the surrounding oak/hickory forest to historic sites, scenic vistas, waterfalls and huge boulder gardens. Devil's Den trails vary in length and difficulty giving riders the opportunity to choose among them. The park offers a horse camp with water and electricity at each site. The horse camp also includes a modern bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets. Reservations are accepted. Free trail maps are available at the park visitor center.
MOUNT MAGAZINE - Arkansas's tallest mountain is the site of Huckleberry Mountain Trail, a multi-use trail spanning 34 miles for use by horsemen, ORV's, mountain bikers and backpackers. There are three loops that cross creeks and connect 2,753-foot Mount Magazine with Huckleberry Mountain. Camping on Mount Magazine is allowed on the portions of trail within the Ozark National Forest.
VILLAGE CREEK - Horseback riding has become a popular pastime at this park, the second largest park in land area in the Arkansas state parks system. Twentty-five miles of multi-use trails (open to bicycles and hikers) wind through the rolling hills and beautiful forest of Crowley's Ridge. Horse trails are open year-round except in extreme wet conditions. Call the park for trail conditions and closings. A first-class horse camp with stalls is open year-round.
Two parks, DeGray Lake Resort and Lake Catherine, offer guided trail rides. Here, you and your family will follow experienced guides on designated routes. Reservations are recommended.
DEGRAY LAKE RESORT - Guided trail rides are offered seasonally. Experience nature by horseback as you ride along quiet woodland trails with sweeping views of DeGray Lake. LAKE CATHERINE - Guided trail rides are offered seasonally. Mountain trails lead you through a variety of wildlife habitats, including thick pine forests and mixed hardwood glades.
